If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed trying to learn herbs…
Then you’re in good company.
This is exactly why I always come back to one plant at a time.
And violet is one of the gentlest places to begin.
It’s simple.
It’s accessible.
And violet offers beautiful support for the nervous system in a season when many of us need it.
But violet for nervous system support?
This is just one way to work with this herb.
There are at least 7–8 other ways you can use this plant in home herbalism—
From soothing the skin to supporting the lymphatic system and more.
You don’t need a shelf full of herbs.
You just need one plant you can learn, use, and trust.
That’s how confidence is built.
That’s how herbalism begins to feel like second nature.
This is exactly what we do inside my Herb Folk herb study membership.
And today, I’m going to pull back the curtain and share a brand new lesson all about using violet as a relaxing nervine so you can get a better idea of what you can expect to learn inside this monthly herb study because I’d love it if you’d join me.

Hey friend,
Have you ever had one of those days where everything just feels… like too much?
Little things get under your skin.
You feel on edge.
Your patience is thinner than usual.
And you can’t quite put your finger on why.
It’s not always one big thing.
Sometimes it’s just the constant input of life.
The noise.
The responsibilities.
The mental load you carry every single day.
And over time, your nervous system starts to feel a little… frazzled.
🌿 A Different Way to Think About Nervous System Support
Most of us don’t think about supporting our nervous system until we feel overwhelmed.
But the truth is…
Your nervous system is involved in everything.
- Your thoughts
- Your emotions
- Your ability to respond to stress
- Even how your body functions day to day
It’s constantly receiving, processing, and responding.
And sometimes, it just needs a little extra support to do that well.
🌿 How Violet Shows Up Here
This is where violet comes in—and it does this in such a gentle, steady way.
Violet is considered a relaxing nervine, which means it supports and calms the nervous system.
But instead of forcing the body to “calm down”…
…it works more like a soft landing.
Remember how we’ve talked about violet being:
- Cooling
- Moistening
- Relaxing
That combination naturally helps:
- Settle overactivity
- Soften tension
- Support the body when things feel overstimulated
And one of the reasons it’s so supportive over time is because it’s also nourishing.
Violet contains minerals that help support the nervous system so it can function the way it’s meant to.
It also brings moisture and softness to the tissues—something the nervous system really relies on to stay balanced.
And beyond the physical side of things…
Violet has a long history of supporting the emotional side too.
- Irritability
- Overwhelm
- Restlessness
- Even those tender, heavy emotions like grief or heartache
It has a way of gently softening the edges so things feel a little more manageable.
🌿 What Violet for the Nervous System Looks Like in Real Life
This isn’t about waiting until you feel completely overwhelmed.
This is about small, steady support.
Violet works beautifully when used regularly—especially in something as simple as a daily tea.
A little bit, over time, can feel like:
👉 A steady exhale for your nervous system
👉 A soft buffer against the intensity of the day
👉 A way to stay a little more grounded
And the best part?
It’s incredibly easy to use.
🌿 Before We Make Anything…
Here’s your takeaway for this week:
👉 Nervous system support doesn’t have to be complicated.
It can be as simple as something you sip each day.
🌿 This Week’s Recipe: Nerve-Nourishing Daily Tea
This is one of those blends that fits seamlessly into real life.
It’s:
- Simple to make
- Easy to keep on hand
- And something you can return to each and every day if you want
And yes—violet is right at the center of it.
The following recipe uses parts, so you can make as much or as little tea as you’d like.
If you want to make a small amount, use a small part like a tablespoon or a scoop. If you want to make a larger amount, use a larger part like a cup or a big handful.
🌿 Nerve-Nourishing Daily Tea Blend
Ingredients:
- 2 parts violet (Viola odorata, V. sororia) aerial parts (flower/leaf)
- 2 parts oat (Avena sativa) straw
- 1 part tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum) aerial parts
- 1 part skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora) aerial parts
- 1/2 part cinnamon (Cinnamomum spp.) bark
Directions:
- Choose your “part” (tablespoon, scoop, handful)
- Combine all herbs in a bowl and mix well
- Store in a labeled jar in a cool, dark place for up to 1 year
To use:
- Add 1 tbsp of tea blend to 8 oz hot water
- Cover and steep for 15 minutes (or longer) — (the longer it steeps, the more minerals and flavor you’ll pull out and the more potent your tea will be)
- Strain and enjoy
🌿 How to Use It
This is meant to be simple.
Try:
- A cup in the morning
- Or in the afternoon when things start to feel like a lot
- Or in the evening as a way to wind down
You don’t have to overthink it.
Just let it become part of your rhythm.
🌿 A Little Encouragement Before You Go
You don’t need to fix everything.
You don’t need a perfect routine.
Just start here.
Make the tea. Drink it. Notice how you feel.
Better yet, sit down while you sip it and do something relaxing for 10 minutes.
- Read a book
- Look through a magazine
- Listen to the birds, crickets, or frogs sing
- Sit in silence and stillness
That’s how this becomes something you actually use—not just something you learn about.
And if you’ve been keeping up this month…
Take a second and notice what you’ve already done.
You’re learning to:
- Understand herbs
- Use them in real ways
- And trust yourself along the way
That’s what this is about.
That’s what makes you a home herbalist.
Next week, we’ll wrap up our time with violet with one more simple, practical way to use it in your everyday life.
You’re doing such a beautiful job with this. 🌿✨
Love and light,
Meagan
