Summer is here and so are the berries!
My boys love going berry picking. It doesn’t matter what kind of berries, as long as they’re ripe and sweet, my guys are up for the adventure.
They challenge the height of fences and the bite of the bushes. They withstand the heat from the sun and the sting of the bee.
All for sweet berries…
They’ve come and they’ve conquered.
Now for their sweet rewards…
They’ve learned that they can do it. They’ve overcome temporary discomfort for the pleasure that awaits them. They’ve learned how healthy berries are for their bodies. They know what parts of a berry bush can be used for medicine and what it’s for. They’re outside playing. They’re learning to identify food in the wild. They’re learning to be grateful and thankful to God for such sweet gifts.
They are being boys.
Until the next adventure…
DID YOU KNOW?
Raspberries are AWESOME FOR YOU!
They’re high vitamin C, manganese, riboflavin, folate, niacin, potassium, copper, magnesium and more! They’re also a great source of fiber.
Studies have shown that raspberries have fifty percent more antioxidants than strawberries. Antioxidants are know to fight off cancer cells. They’ve also been found to help in heart disease, and they have a very low glycemic index, which is great for diabetics.
Raspberries also have antimicrobial properties which means they fight off the overgrowth of bacteria in your system. Hoo-rah!
You can also use the leaves as an herbal medicine. That’s right! Raspberry leaves make a delicious tea that’s ideal for women at all stages of life. It’s well-known for it’s benefits on the female reproductive system, but it’s just as good for guys too.
So are you ready to start eating more healthy berries?
If so, they’re pretty easy to grow!
If you live in the country, just plant your bushes out in your backyard and create your own secret berry patch. If you live in the city, try growing them in large containers on your patio.
