I’m not sure why, but I love learning new ways of doing things, particularly when it comes to making herbal preparations stronger and more potent than I am used to.
With that said, today I’m going to walk you through the process of making an Ayurvedic herb-infused oil that uses both water and oil to extract the fat- and water-soluble components of herbs. This will result in a potent, high-quality herbal oil.
In this video, I’ll share a recipe for a Summer Floral Body Oil that can be used from late spring through summer (Pitta season) to help keep the skin cool and hydrated during the hot, dry days of summer. You can get the full recipe and directions in this post here.
I hope you enjoyed the video, and don’t forget to check out past members-only content here.

Hi there! I have a question about how this process works: If the water is there to extract the water soluble components from the plant material, how do those components remain once the water has evaporated? Do they transfer to the oil that is left?
Honestly, I’m not quite sure how this process works, but yes, the water-soluble properties are extracted from the plant material and then supposedly transferred to the oil during the infusion process. This blog post has more info and recipes following this method, but it doesn’t go into the chemistry behind the process. I’m sure this is covered in an Ayruvedic herbal course, though!
